Mr. Lamb is reminded of his hive of bees that he has to tend to. He says that some people feel bees buzz, but he believes that the bees sing. Thus, Mr. Lamb wants to drive home the point that it is the attitude that shapes a man.Derek says that he does’nt like being near people, especially when he knows that they are afraid of him. At this point, Mr. Lamb narrates the story of a timid man, who refused to come out of his house because he feared that he will be a victim of some fatal accident.

Of all amusements which can possibly be imagined for a hard-working man, after his daily toil, there is nothing like reading an entertaining book. It calls no bodily exertion, of which he has had enough. It relieves his home of its dullness. It transports him to a lively and more interesting scene; and while he enjoys himself there, he may forget the evils of the present moment. Nay, it accompanies him to his day’s next work, and if the book he has been reading be anything above the very idlest and lightest, it gives him something to think of, besides the drudgery of his everyday occupation.

From time to time he stands the pole on the ground, selects a flute and plays for a few minutes. The sound rises clearly above the noise of the traffic and the hawkers cries. The dangers of smoking are very serious. We cannot dismiss them lightly. Practically all major disorders are caused by smoking as well as aggravated and made worse. High B.P., heart disorders and cancer are the major killer diseases caused by smoking. Few people realise that non-smokers can also suffer from the diseases induced by smoking if they go on inhaling the smoke from other people’s smoking.Our government has realised the harms of smoking and has put ban on smoking in public places.

(i) Margie’s mother sent her for the County Inspector as Margie had been doing the Geography test very badly given by the mechanical teacher. Margie’s mother was very sad about it.

(ii) Shehnai is a hollow pipe that is longer and broader than the pungi and it has seven holes on it. With the opening and closing of these holes, soft sounds are produced. Whereas pungi is ball-shaped in between, with shrill sound.

(iii) Kezia was afraid of her father because he was very strict. He always used to give – 3 commands to everyone in the house.

On Sundays, Kezia’s father would stretch out on the sofa. He would cover his face with his hanky, put his feet on cushion and sleep soundly.

(iv) Einstein called his desk drawer at the patent office, “the bureau of theoretical

Einstein was actually developing his own ideas in secret and his drawer had all the evidences which could reveal the secret.

(i) It means that the path had a lot of grass on it. This means that it had not been walked over by many people.

(ii)We must make ourselves strong to face the violent wind. When we are strong, the wind will not harm us, instead it will become a friend and help us to grow and flourish.

(i) The child lags behind because he would watch the different happenings around him. He would get attracted to these things and would stop in his way. Thus, his parents would ahead and he would be left behind.

(ii) Toto had bright eyes sparkling with mischief, pearly white teeth, quick and wicked fingers and a gracious tail which served as a third hand. The smile of Toto was cute and he used to frighten elderly Anglo Indian ladies in fun. Altogether all these qualities made him pretty.

Q. 14 When Evelyn came to know about her deafness, she was determined to lead a normal life and she continued to take interest in music. She learnt to open her mind and body to sounds and vibrations. By practicing, she could sense music notes in different parts of her body.

Music poured in every part of her body. It tingled in the skin, her cheekbones and in her hair. She sensed the sound of xylophone that passed up the stick into her fingertips. If she leaned against the drums, she felt the echoes of sound into her body. When she played on a wooden platform, she removed her shoes so that the vibrations pass through her bare feet and up her legs. By doing all this, she felt music more deeply than any other person.

The last four lines of the poem carry an important message, that is, the strong people emerge stronger and victorious in the face of adversities. We must make ourselves strong like a burning fire which grows and flourishes in the violent wind. We prosper in the face of challenges.

Mahendra was a junior supervisor in a firm that supplied supervisors on hire at various construction sites, factories bridges, dams etc. His work was to keep an eye on the activities at these sites.
